Quit Drinking by Going to Treatment

I highly recommend treatment for anyone that is thinking about quitting drinking. There are several reasons for this:

1) Treatment is safe - there are 2 levels of safety that treatment provides for the alcoholic. One, the environment itself is safe in that there is no alcohol present and therefore there is no temptation to drink while you are there. (Or at least there is no opportunity to drink while there!). In addition to this, there will be a medical detox unit to see you safely through the withdrawal. This is a major point as coming off of alcohol can actually be fatal if you don't do it properly.

2) Treatment offers peer support - one huge benefit of going to treatment is that the people there with you are all going through the same thing that you are. This is extremely helpful in terms of support and can make a big difference when you eventually leave treatment. We need help in order to recover and in treatment you will meet others who can help you.

3) Treatment offers professional help - there are certified counselors and therapists at treatment centers who can help give you expert guidance and advice on how to quit drinking. They can also provide you with helpful resources for when you leave treatment by recommending certain things for aftercare.

If you have tried to quit drinking in the past but failed, maybe it is time to consider going to a treatment center. It has worked for many people so it is certainly worth the effort.
