How to Diagnose a Drinking Problem

If you think you might have a drinking problem, then here is what you can do to determine the extent of it.

First, you need to make a deal with yourself that you will not take a drink, at all, for the next 30 days. If you really want to know the extent of your drinking problem then you will be willing to go through with this. No alcohol for 30 days.

The second part of this experiment is to take one drink per day for 30 days. Actually, to be more precise, you have to limit yourself to one drink per day if you are a female or two drinks per day if you are a male. One drink equals either a 12 ounce beer, a 4 ounce glass of wine, or a one ounce shot of liquor. You must stick within these limits and not exceed them for 30 days straight.

Now if you do both of these experiments then you will learn everything you need to know about your drinking problem. If you have no problem at all with either experiment, then you are only abusing alcohol and your solution is quite simple: cut down on your drinking.

On the other hand, if you have trouble with either of these 30 day experiments, then you might be an alcoholic and you should consider getting professional help. Many people would recommend that you go to treatment or rehab in order to get the help that you really need. Treatment can offer a lot of support and a safe environment in which you can dry out.
